Whether your horse needs rehabilitation, or you simply want to improve their health and fitness, our therapy plans are designed for each individual horse, and are carried out by professional therapists.

Hydrotherapy

Our equine water treadmill offers your horse a whole range of benefits, from providing a great full-body workout to helping with rehab cases. At Howe Brook we take a safe, considered approach to hydrotherapy to ensure each horse is calm, happy and gets the absolute most from their session. A minimum of two handlers are always present. 

With use of our water treadmill, you can expect to see increased range of movement, enhanced suppleness and muscle tone, and better cardio-vascular fitness. It can also be used for targeted training of the back, resulting in enhanced lateral flexion. 

Hydrotherapy is fantastic for reducing swelling, stimulating circulation, and reducing any pain present. With some injuries, recovery time can decrease by as much as 50-60%.

  • We recommend that horses who are new to the water treadmill, are in rehab, or haven’t used it in a prolonged period of time, have a structured introductory period to get them used to the treadmill.

    For the first session in particular, we recommend a shorter session of 12 minutes.

TheraPlate

If you want your horse to stay sound and conditioned, then use of our TheraPlate is invaluable. Extremely simple yet effective, our TheraPlate is the gold standard in vortex wave circulation therapy. It works by using low-amplitude orbital motion to deliver powerful rehabilitation and sports conditioning benefits, and is far more advanced than standard vibration plates. 

Not only does it effectively treat injuries by speeding healing, it also actively helps prevent them in the first instance, by increasing bone density and muscle mass, especially if your horse is stalled. By increasing circulation and reducing inflammation, we can help ensure your horse is in peak health and fitness. 

It has also been proven to decrease lameness and bucked shins, as well as effectively treat laminitis and sesamoiditis. Chronic conditions, arthritis, and general stiffness can also be relieved in this way.

Solarium

Not just a relaxing treat for your horse, the dedicated solarium at Howe Brook provides horses with a therapeutic boost of infrared light and warmth, to warm muscles up before exercise, and to improve overall wellbeing. Our solarium also provides effective post-exercise therapy, removing lactic acid to aid recovery, and can also be used in cold, wet riding conditions, to stop your horse getting a chill.

It is specially integrated into our Monarch Handling Stocks, which makes the process safe and straightforward.
